How Millennials Became The Burnout Generation

Check out this Buzzfeed article here.

Amazing.

I think this is part of what I'm going through at work.  It can affect my home life too (and it does; I feel exhausted after work and all I do is sit in a chair and work at a computer!).

I realized over the holiday break when I left my work computer at my apartment that I need time off and I need time away.  I'm considering leaving my work phone at work but there will be that time that something comes in and I need to be accessible.

*sigh*

I hate that I think about work on the weekend and days off.  I need to stop.  It's one of the reasons why I don't work from home.  At all.  Well, only a few times when I absolutely need to (appointments or whatever) but I don't like bringing my work stuff into my apartment.  I've been leaving my notebook at work too.  I'm thinking that helps, or I hope it does.

Things to do after a holiday break.

Oh the week after a holiday.

I came back down to my apartment on Tuesday.  Traffic wasn’t bad, yay!

Worked Wednesday.

Played some video games on Wednesday night.  Got a massive headache that proceeded into Thursday.  Considered calling/emailing in on Thursday but didn’t.  Worked Thursday.  Worked Friday.  My late meeting was cancelled on Friday at the last minute so I could go home at 4.  Came home, listened to the Bugcast, chatted with some of the people, then had dinner and cleaned up.  I took a phone call from my mom and then made my grocery lists.  Then got sucked into tumblr posts until MIDNIGHT.

Cue this morning.  I get up around 8 which isn’t too bad.  Get around, get my stuff together, and go to Meijer.

Meijer.

I went to the one on Brown which I tend to regret because the store is merely ok.  At least they had everything I wanted (even though I forgot popcorn of all the things) and I get to the checkout.

There are only 3 registers open.  Granted, all of the self-checkouts are open but I hate using them because usually some asshole is behind me and I can’t scan, bag, and pay all at the same time and they like to shove in on my bagging process.  Also everything gets jacked up at the bottom and I need to sort all my cold things out so they get bagged together.

I digress.

There were only three registers open so that means there’s a wait.  I don’t care; it seems like the guy doing the checkout is unphased by the line so I try not to be too irritated.  He’s not the best bagger in the world but I roll with it because I’m fucking picky and I know that I shouldn’t tell him how to do his job.  I can rebag if need be, but he puts all my cold stuff together so I have no problem.

I come home and take care of everything.  Then I sit for 15 minutes and read my phone and listen to the Mary Poppins Returns soundtrack because I like it and chill before I go to Trader Joe’s.

I love Trader Joe’s.  It makes me want to actually shop.  It makes me feel good to go into and buy things from there.  The people are nice (customers sometimes aren’t but whatever; staff is top-notch) and they fucking open registers when it’s fucking busy!  Amazing.  Meijer could learn a thing or two from them.  I get there and back in less than 45 minutes, including my drive to the location in Rochester Hills.  HUZZAH!

Home again, unpacked, taken care of, and then time to eat.  Had lunch, and now I’m halfway through my laundry.

No cleaning because I cleaned before I left for the holiday break, and barring some dust, the place is still pretty clean!

My mom and brother are visiting tomorrow (or we’re going to Detroit, it’s not clear) and I’m mostly done with what I need to finish!  Laundry should be dry by tomorrow night.

HUZZAH!

QOTD

[community profile] questionoftheday asks: Are you more of a bath or a shower type of person?

My answer:

Showers in the morning and baths at night if I feel like it.

Showers are to wake up and baths are to relax!

New Year (New Me? Nah.)

 It's a new year!

Yay!

So many people do resolutions for the new year but I usually don't.  I try to keep on trucking with what I'm doing:
  • Drink 2 27 oz bottles of water a day (yep, been doing that).
  • Eat more vegetables/fruit (I try for the 5-a-day that they recommend, but sometimes I don't make it; I'm not doing too bad on that front).
  • Keep up with the regular "adulting": cleaning, mail/bills/laundry/etc (been doing this; even was ahead in December with my rent, go me!)
I guess I do have two goals for the year: pay off my Jeep loan early and get the proof from the DMV and change insurance for the Jeep.  I'm going to do that over the summer when I potentially will have more time, daylight, and money.

Also I want to go to Nile.  I've not been going because they meet during the day but I feel like I need to go back because I feel very disconnected right now, even though I've been going to the things I can go to and I get our Temple's emails and I'm in their facebook group.

I also strive to get better at my job but that's ongoing.  I have a lot of imposter syndrome I suppose and I need to get over that.

Home.

I am home.

I am fucking home.  Well, my mom's house but I did the majority of my growing up here so...

It sounds stupid, coming home helps, but it does.

I finally feel like I have a chance to relax.  I've left my work laptop at my apartment and only have my work phone.  I check my work phone twice a day.  If something comes up, I can go down to my apartment and log in and take care of it.  Only an hour and a half away.

Having an on-call job is shit, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.  I wanna get better but I also need time to myself away from everything.

Tonight we're chilling and watching stuff on Netflix.  Tomorrow night is a party at a friend's house.  Monday is Christmas Eve.  Tuesday is Christmas.  My brother has to work Wednesday through Friday.  Friday night is the blues concert at the Crow.  I am SO looking forward to that.

I go back to work on the 2nd.  I'm not wishing my time away by any means but I just have so much to look forward to with this break.

I'm tired.  I'm burnt out.  I *need* this time with my family and friends.

I need time with good music, movies, and video games.

[community profile] questionoftheday asks: If you were going to work at a mall-type store purely for the discount, which store would it be? (question submitted by [personal profile] azriona)

My answer:

I would work at Gamestop!  Games, systems, talking with people who like gaming, and just hanging out in the presence of games and gamers sounds cool.

From what I've read and watched on Youtube though, it seems like Gamestop is a sweatshop that totally has some unethical practices and I don't really want to be associated with that.

But discounts on games?  Heck yeah!!

UFYH

I sit here in my clean apartment.

The fresh smell of clean carpet and a clean bathroom and kitchen wafting through the air.

I love it.

I left work a little bit early because I had nothing more to do, came home and started right away.  I got started around 4:15 or so and was done at 5:30, so that's good time.  My place is not that big so it doesn't take that long to clean, luckily.

What'd I do?  Have a list:
  • Vacuumed all the rooms.
  • Dusted.
  • Mirrors.
  • Cleaned the kitchen  (all counters, sink, etc).
  • Cleaned the bathroom (counters, sinks, toilet, bathtub)
  • Mopped
And now it's done.  I'll be glad that I did this because then my apartment will be clean when I come back from break, if a hair dusty.  That's fine.

I'm so glad it's done.  What I have to do tomorrow is to pay my rent and do my checkbook.  I have all my other bills paid up except for the Jeep payment and my internet bill, but those will come while I'm gone.  They'll get paid on Wednesday after work.

Whew.  That's a big thing to cross off the list!

QOTD

[community profile] questionoftheday asks: What is your relationship with technology? Do you keep up with the latest and greatest, or have you stuck with the older stuff you bought years ago as long as it still works?

My answer:

I try to keep up with the latest and greatest, through blogs and websites. Currently, my computer is one I built in 2012, my laptop is from 2014, my chromebook is from this year, my phone is from last year, and my iPad is from... uh... 2015 I think.

So I have a wide array of "newness" to my tech. I don't usually upgrade as soon as something comes out, but rather wait for reviews. Oh, I take that back with the Nintendo Switch. I got one of those last year and and love it. I have a PS4 "slim" because I couldn't find a PS4 Pro anywhere. And a Gamecube from *mumble* vintage. And multiple Gameboys including a New 3DS.

So some of my tech is old. Some is new(er). Some is vintage. I also like books.

But yeah, I try to keep up with stuff but I don't buy right away. I like to read reviews of everything (including games) and then buy based on that.

As far as my relationship to tech is concerned... We can say that I love it and that I'm techy. I love to read about tech, talk about tech, and watch videos about tech. It's just fun to follow partly because it's changing all the time and partly because it's cool to see what people are coming up with as far as new things are concerned.

I'm following more people...

And my reading page is picking up!

Woot!

I'm tired. Been having some difficulties sleeping again, which seems to be par for the course for me. I average 5-6 hours a night now. I'd love 8 hours but it doesn't seem possible.

*sigh*

[community profile] questionoftheday asks: Have you ever run into a former crush or love interest, and wondered what you ever saw in them? (question submitted by [personal profile] author_by_night)

My answer: No, not really.  I do wonder what I saw in my ex-boyfriend though.  He was a jerk.  I guess I loved him at one time.  He just jerked me around like none other and treated me horribly.

I've got a crush now and it's totally platonic.  Co-worker.  I love him, platonically.  I'm not in love with anyone right now, and I'm fine with that.

Well well

My first post here. Never thought I'd come back to a LJ-type site, but here I am.

I'm going to be posting here and to my pillowfort.io account (as soon as it gets back up and running, natch) in lieu of Tumblr because of their new rules.

Let's see what happens with this new blog, eh?
